Jamunia — Natural Amethyst Pendant in 92.5 Silver

The Greeks called it amethystos — not intoxicated — and carved their drinking cups from it, convinced the purple stone would keep a clear head through a long night. For centuries it was ranked among the cardinal gems, as costly as ruby and emerald, and set into the rings of bishops and the crowns of kings. Only when vast deposits were found in Brazil did the price fall. The colour never did.

In Indian tradition the stone is jamunia, named for the deep purple of the jamun fruit. Vedic astrology assigns it to Shani — Saturn — and offers it as the accessible alternative to blue sapphire, worn for discipline, patience and the long view.

The Stone

A faceted natural amethyst in a generous oval, cut to open the colour rather than deepen it — so the stone reads a clear, saturated violet in daylight and picks up its cooler tones under lamplight. The facets are what make it move; a cabochon would have held the colour still.

The Silver

Bezel-set in 92.5 sterling silver beneath a ribboned bow motif, with fine detailing worked into each loop. The bow sits above the stone rather than around it, so nothing competes with the amethyst itself. Finished with a wide flared bail.
